Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington, dedicated $89,264 to men’s basketball teams in 2024, falling short of the state average by $1,139,782, which stands at $1,229,046, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This amount accounted for 12.9% of the college’s overall expenditure on sports teams during 2024.

Since 2010, the total sports-related expenses at Grays Harbor College have increased by 135.6%.

Basketball is one of the most popular college sports in the United States alongside football, with major NCAA programs drawing fan support and television audiences that can rival those of the NBA. Tournaments such as March Madness attract millions of viewers each year.

College athletics has entered a new era of athlete compensation after a federal settlement allowed schools to directly share revenue with players for the first time.
