VFW FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION

Kara McDermott made history in Ocean Shores!

Kara is the first female Professional Firefighter hired by the City of Ocean Shores.

As a volunteer with Ocean Shores Fire Department, she was extremely eager to learn as much as she could, she was determined to learn and be an asset to the Ocean Shores Fire Department and help the citizens of Ocean Shores

As she was gaining experience as volunteer, she didn’t want to wait for local classes in Grays Harbor. Kara found and put herself through a Fire Academy and EMT training.

In January of 2020 she was hired as a Firefighter/EMT.  She brings many skills sets to our Fire Department we are so grateful to have her as a part of this team.

As part of her experience, Kara was involved in the media world.  The ability to utilize her skills and have her part of our media support team and a PIO for Ocean Shores Fire Department has been a great asset to the department.

In 2021 she had been voted in as the President of the Firefighters Association and has overseen several Fire departments functions you see throughout the year such as Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween party at the convention center and Turkey Bingo in Ocean Shores.

We are looking forward in seeing her future success within the Ocean Shores Fire Department.
