APPLICATION PROCESSInterested candidates must submit a resume and letter of interest to the HR Director, Kristin Jones, no later than 12:00 PM on Friday, January 6, 2023. Applicants who are not currently employed with the Ocean Shores Police Department must also submit an Ocean Shores Employment Application.

WRITTEN TEST – Friday, January 13, 2023All candidates who make the proper submissions prior to the specified deadline will be invited to participate in the written test at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Ocean Shores Fire Department in the Training. The written test will be monitored. Candidates will have 2 hours to complete the multiple-choice questions. Upon completion of the written test, each candidate will receive a scheduled time for his/her oral board interview.

ORAL BOARD INTERVIEW – Friday, January 13, 2023Oral board interviews will take place in the afternoon on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Ocean Shores Fire Department. The oral board interview score will include the review of the candidate’s resume and letter of interest.

SCORINGBoth the written test and the oral board will each be weighted as 50% of the candidate’s final score. Candidates final score must be a minimum of 70% to pass the Police Sergeant Examination process.

Police Sergeant Examination Process Scoring ProcedureThe candidate’s final score for the Police Sergeant examination process shall be determined in two parts: 1) the score on a 50-question multiple choice written test 2) an oral board interview with review of the candidate’s résumé and letter of interest.

The candidate’s written test will be scored as a percentage of the total points possible on the scoring sheets. This written test percentage will be weighted as 50% of the candidate’s final score. The candidate’s oral board interview, résumé, and letter of interest will be weighted as a percentage of the total points possible on the oral board scoring sheets.  This oral board percentage will be weighted as50% of the candidate’s final score. To calculate the final score, the candidate’s written test percentage will be added to the oral board percentage, and then this sum will be divided by 2.

EXAMPLE

Candidate X’s Written Test Score: 79.45% Candidate X’s Oral Board Score: 81.80%

79.45 + 81.80 =  161.25  /  2   = Candidate X’s Final Score: 80.63%

MINIMUM PASSING SCORE = 70%
