The City of Port Angeles is seeking volunteers for its annual Arbor Day event, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The city encourages residents to participate in planting street trees across neighborhoods as part of the City Shade Street Tree Program.
This year, the city plans to provide around 75 free street trees for residents. Volunteers are needed specifically to help plant about 30 trees for community members who have requested assistance.
Courtney Bornsworth, Natural Resources Administrator, is coordinating volunteer efforts. Those interested in volunteering are asked to submit a Volunteer Intake Form either by email at ced@cityofpa.us or by returning it to City Hall at 321 East 5th Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
“Registered volunteers will receive more detailed information prior to the event. In the meantime, here are some helpful tips:
No planting experience is necessary. All volunteers will attend a brief planting demonstration on October 25, where they will learn proper planting techniques.
Tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gardening gloves.
Wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing.
Don’t forget to bring a water bottle.”
Residents who are unable to attend on October 25 but are still interested in volunteering with the City Shade Program can contact Courtney at (360) 417-4750 or ced@cityofpa.us for more information about future opportunities.
