The Jefferson County Board of Health is backing a notice from the state that would allow the county to move into Phase 2 of reopening before other counties are allowed to do so, according to Peninsula Daily News.
Health officer Dr. Tom Locke said the county is safe and ready to begin reopening.
His comments came after Gov. Jay Inslee’s office said Jefferson County is permitted to request a variance and go into Phase 2 before other counties, according to Peninsula Daily News. If it moves forward, it would join nine other counties whose variance waiver applications have gone through successfully.
Locke has detailed what he would consider high benefit/low-risk companies (i.e. house cleaning services, pet grooming, and office-based businesses), medium benefit/medium risk businesses (outdoor activities, indoor companies with five people or less and hair and nail salons and barbershops with local clients) and low benefit/high-risk categories (real estate, restaurants that offer dine-in).
