CITY OF ELMA: Replacement Levy Request for $250,000

Request

City of Elma issued the following announcement on July 9.

Since 2015, the Citizens’ of Elma have supported and voted for their Police Levies. This election, your ballots will include a Replacement Levy Request for $250,000. The levies have gone to increase and support the current service levels in your police department.

Currently, your police department is staffed by 5 officers, 2 sergeants, ½ time code enforcement, 1 ½ police clerks and the chief. We are a full service police department that serves approximately 3,400 residents and the visitors to our town. In 2019, the Elma Police Department responded to over 5000 calls for service and participated in a multitude of community events.

This $250,000 Levy will serve to partially fund your Police Department. Last year we were able to increase our staff and promote one of our officers to the position of Sergeant. This Levy will allow us to remain at our current staffing level.

This levy will replace the levy set to expire at the end of this year. If passed, the levy will cost property tax payers approximately 84 cents per $1,000 of their assessed value. For example, if your home is assessed at $100,000 it will cost about $7.00 per month.

If you have any questions regarding the levy or your police service, please feel free to contact me directly.
