Gov. Jay Inslee has announced that this season has been the worst fire season in history and offered to assist other western states to the south as the wildfire battle rages on.
“Now having said that, we are confident we will get these fires contained," Inslee said, KOMO News reported. "And we have been able to free up some resources to send to some of the biggest fires in other states.”
During a news conference, the governor said the wildfires are due to "climate change." He warned that if climate change isn't met head-on, conditions will worsen for the western states of the country.
“As bad as it is now (and) as high as the risks are now, they will continue to worsen as long as climate change is an issue,” Dr. Crystal Raymond, a University of Washington fire ecologist told KOMO News. “We can expect to see more extreme fire danger days, longer fire seasons and overall greater acreage burned.”
