The Washington State Department of Commerce said that it awarded $9.8 million in Electrification of Transportation Systems (ETS) grants to fund 14 projects to expand the state's Electric Vehicle (EV) charging capabilities.
“Investing in the electrification of transportation is essential to Washington’s clean energy future and for equitable economic recovery and growth throughout the state,” Department of Commerce Director Lisa Brown said, Big Country News reported in December. “Importantly, these projects cover the entire state, supporting the expansion of EV infrastructure that will benefit the most communities.”
Supported through the state’s Clean Energy Fund, the ETS grants will financially support installing more than 320 new Level 2, fast-charging and heavy duty public EV stations across 11 counties.
The grants target projects to benefit communities that have been typically underserved by current EV infrastructure, including low-income communities and communities of color.
Grant recipients include projects to expand charging infrastructure for an EV car-share service for senior affordable housing residents, installing charging stations near locations with affordable multi-family housing and other urban and rural public transit charging projects.
