Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler released a statement on Twitter and the Colombian calling on the government to start reopening schools. She said that parents, teachers and students are already at their breaking point for not being able to go to school and the government needs to address this issue immediately.

On her Twitter page Beutler wrote, “After nearly a year out of the classroom, parents & students have reached a breaking point. The CDC says schools should be the last to close and first to open. I’m supporting its science-based guidance that says we can fully reopen schools & remain safe.”

Beutler’s statement in the Columbian was more detailed and she mentioned that one of the reasons why schools should start reopening is because the mental health of American children is at risk.

She argued that students who have been studying at home are not as actively participating in their learning as compared to going to school. She also claimed that the suicide rate among students has gone up because they could not talk to other people outside their families for guidance or just to vent their problems and frustrations.
