Well, I don’t think one day of my forecast this last week was correct. I tell you, in an area with all quickly changing weather, springtime is so very hard to predict.
What I can say is there is pretty overwhelming evidence to call the next few days anyway….so here we go.
The overcast skies we are seeing this first day of April, could very well bring the proverbial showers, especially towards the evening hours. But the clouds should give way overnight to reward us with a really nice Saturday. This is going to be your outside chores day. Maybe a good chance to plow through that jungle area we call the front yard with a mower. I bought new mower blades this year as I inevitably hit a Corgi’s chew toy buried in the midst of all that greenery, no matter how hard I look before mowing. But our Saturday will deteriorate by nightfall, and there is likely some showers and rain moving in again. While the central and east areas of the county probably won’t see a lot, I saw one graphic that showed about half an inch out west.
So Sunday is kind of bleak, but the real story is Monday. I keep hearing that there will be a much more impactful storm bringing us a bunch of precipitation, including some significant snowfall in the mountains. I received an Alert from the National Weather Service for a winter snow watch for heavy snow above 2500 ft. That’s a lot of snow at a low elevation for a spring storm, but our snow levels aren’t all that impressive this year, and the official hydrological reports on snowpack to water supply for this summer are done later this month. So any additional accumulation of snow in them thar hills is a good thing. Fingers crossed.
As I said, I don’t think I’ll even take a stab at the rest of next week. I would bet on a lot of showery activity as opposed to rain all the time, but one thing I do notice is the temps. It is going to continue to be a little cooler than normal in the coming week it seems, especially overnight. If you haven’t taken that extra comforter off the bed yet, maybe wait another week or two.
A different type of photo this week. As I have mentioned, April is a month of unreliable weather. It can be nice one moment, and downright miserable 1 minute later. Each year, people venture out into the Strait to enjoy a nice day, and really tough winds kick up putting people in danger. This photo is a reminder from our Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit to be careful at all times, but to take care especially as our seasons change.
