Well, while I predicted that we would see precipitation and overnight cooler temperatures this week, no one would have ever guessed the snow that we saw just about every morning and even some early afternoons these past few days. I think I need to fire Ollie the Olympic Marmot who told us way back on February 2nd we would see spring by now. Even though the official Clallam County flower (Skunk Cabbage) is in full bloom, the daffodils seem to be struggling a bit to gain any ground and are kind of stunted. My photo today was our forecast for this last Wednesday. Look at the temperature predicted for Hurricane Ridge. Wow.
So what now? Well, the temperatures for the next week are forecasted to be a LITTLE better. I think overnight we will see it in the lower 40’s instead of 30 something, so our snow chances should be in the rear view mirror, at least for the lowlands. The snow level will still be somewhat low for the next few days, maybe hovering around 3000 to 5000 feet. Let’s hope anyway.
Today (Friday) should be a what you see is what you get sort of day. Some blue sky, some puffy clouds capable of showers, but overall, should be ok. But tomorrow, yeah, not so much. It will be pretty damp throughout the county so that should be your indoor chore day. Monday and Tuesday, the same. But wedged in between there is Easter Sunday. While it’s no doubt the grass will be wet as we can’t get it dried out enough to mow it for crying out loud, the weather should be nice and an outside Easter Egg hunt for youngsters just might work out.
But after Sunday, there’s pretty much a good chance of rain every day (some better than others) of next week. Like I said, maybe a little warmer (and I mean a little), but a pretty boring forecast for a while with the wash, rinse and repeat effect of each day being like the day before.
Well there you go then. April showers will hopefully bring some May flowers…..and sun and warmer weather. I’m optimistic as there are some certain signs spring is here. Like my continual brushing of Boomer. Every time I brush him, I wind up with enough Corgi hair I could have a second dog. So he’s getting ready for the summer sun. Maybe we can soon too.
Everyone have a great weekend and, as always,
Stay safe
